Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was the big star in the Big Apple on Wednesday night.
The Toronto Blue Jays first baseman had New York buzzing after belting three home runs — despite having a gash on his hand after it was stomped on by baserunner Aaron Hicks– in his team’s 6-4 win over the Yankees.
The New York Daily News played on the blood angle for its Wednesday sports cover — tweeted out Tuesday night.

Two of the Blue Jays slugger’s home runs came off Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, which was a theme of Daily News writer Kristie Ackert’s game story.
“Gerrit Cole was still looking for the right tone. The Yankees were still looking for their ace. And Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was looking for a Band-Aid,” Ackert wrote in her opening paragraph.

The headline at the front of the New York Post‘s sports website read: Yankees’ Gerrit Cole undone by Blue Jays star’s unreal power show.
“The Yankees left Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bloodied, but Blue Jays’ young star inflicted the most serious damage in return,” Greg Joyce wrote.
