Darius Lee, Houston Baptist basketball star, killed in NYC shooting

Houston Baptist men’s basketball player Darius Lee was killed and 8 other persons were being wounded in an early-morning capturing Monday in Harlem, New York Metropolis law enforcement said.

Police say Lee, who grew up in Harlem, was back residence for summer split at the time of the capturing. 

Lee, 21, was not long ago named the university’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year right after leading the Huskies in scoring and rebounding final season. The 6-6 swingman was a next staff All-Southland Convention collection as a senior and was on observe to graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in athletics administration, the university explained.

Houston Baptist Coach Ron Cottrell described Lee as a “remarkable younger man” and a “joy to mentor.”

“We are in shock and can’t wrap our heads close to this information,” Cottrell said in a statement posted on the university’s web page. “As fantastic of a basketball participant as he was, he was an even improved individual. I won’t be able to even imagine of basketball appropriate now. I can only assume of what a gentle Darius was all through his shorter time on earth.”

The New York Every day News noted that Lee was aspect of a team attending a cookout organized by Harlem rapper Rich Rhymer.
