Former Clemson quarterback Taisun Phommachanh is staying in the ACC and his next game will be against the Tigers.

Phommachanh announced Monday on social media he has committed to Georgia Tech, which plays host to Clemson in the Sept. 5 season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. He was Clemson’s No. 2 quarterback last season behind starter D.J. Uiagalelei.

Phommachanh suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon in the 2021 spring game and was expected to be out for the season but got medically cleared in time for the first game against Georgia and played in the second game against South Carolina State.

He entered the transfer portal in early December after the regular-season finale against South Carolina and three weeks before the Tigers beat Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando.

He ran for 69 yards and a TD on 11 carries. The former four-star recruit from Bridgeport, Conn., played three games in a redshirt season of 2019 and four games in the COVID-threatened 2020 season.
