“When I looked at the guidelines, I won’t lie, I was stunned at the prolonged procedure, that at any offered point prior to the precise Senate impeachment trial proceedings could disqualify the copious amounts of proof that present very clear and repetitive actions of felony, corruption, and neglect of obligation by Governor Torres around these quite a few many years. Devoid of the evidence to back again it up, the impeachment method is incomplete,” she stated.

“Doing what is suitable is by no means straightforward, but it is often the correct detail to do. So, senators, we talk to that you do what is appropriate for the folks: to be honest. These regulations? They are not honest. They skew in favor of this impeached governor.”

Democrat Rep. Corina Magofna then stepped up to the podium to also deliver her feedback.

“If the Senate human body moves forward and adopts the impeachment policies as it is, then you are going to be encroaching and overreaching into the Household of Representatives’ abilities to prosecute the scenario that is ahead of us. Basic and simple,” she reported.

As for the rule to restrict the impeachment prosecutor to just the Residence authorized counsel and team, Santos explained this is “unjust, unethical, unfair, and unreasonable” to the Property of Representatives.

“If these overreaching steps had been reciprocated, I undeniably question that the Senate would consent and tolerate such disregard [for] the separation of the properties of Legislature, and this has been echoed by many customers of the Home of Reps,” she added.

She also observed that there had been no restrictions put on who the impeached official can have as lawful counsel and workers for the impeachment proceedings.

“Again, this is remarkably biased, partial, and unfair to the House of Reps… I am not a lawful specialist, but primarily based on my comprehending of the proposed procedures, the Senate will not be conducting a honest and impartial demo and, if these procedures are adopted, we may not even have a demo at all. The proposed guidelines are littered with bias. It is really apparent and noticeable that the scales of justice have been deliberately tipped to accommodate the impeached,” she stated.

In accordance to Sen. Deleon Guerrero, “It is distinct that the adopted impeachment guidelines do not spell justice.”

Senator Manglona furthermore opposed the impeachment regulations.
